I'll tell you what the structure of Test 4 of the DELE B1 is like and I'll give you useful tips to prepare well and make sure you're clear about what you should take into account on the day of the exam.

You'll have 15 minutes to prepare for Assignment 1 and Assignment 2, and then another 15 minutes inside the exam room.

In the first 15 minutes, you will be with a person who will explain the full exam, give you the materials you will use and will also provide you with a blank sheet of paper and a pen or pencil, although it is advisable to bring your own.

How many tasks does it include?

The DELE B1 Oral Test includes four tasks. The first relates to the second and the third to the fourth, but the topic of tasks 1 and 2 will always be different from that of tasks 3 and 4.

What are the most recurring themes?

Among the topics that are usually included are health, well-being, nutrition, sports, human relations, studies, language learning, the world of work and profession, new technologies and aspects of personal life, such as anecdotes, projections for the future, your city or leisure, among others.

How much time do you have for each task?

You have between 2 and 3 minutes for each task, but specifically for Task 2 you have between 3 and 4 minutes.

What does each task consist of?

For Task 1, you can choose between two topics and based on what you select, you must prepare an oral presentation as a well-structured monologue. The interviewer will only ask you questions if they notice that you are not meeting the guidelines of the assignment. You can help by having an outline, but keep in mind that you shouldn't look at it all the time, just take quick glances.

In Task 2, on the other hand, the interviewer will ask you questions related to your presentation based on the topic chosen in Task 1, with the intention of expressing yourself in the past and in the future. If you don't understand any questions, you can respectfully ask them to repeat or rephrase them. In this case it's a conversation, so here you can also ask the examiner a question and that will add up points.

In Task 3, you must describe a photograph based on a series of guidelines, but you won't be able to prepare it beforehand. It's important that you use expressions of doubt, such as “Maybe”, “Maybe” or “It's possible”, and others. You should refer to the people in the photograph, the place where they are and the relationship with the objectives present in the image. You'll have 2 minutes to write the description and 1 more minute in which the interviewer will ask you related questions.

In Task 4, similar to the previous one, you will receive a sheet with instructions that you can read in 1 minute to carry out a simulated situation. For example, if there were two people traveling in the chosen photograph, they will ask you to be one of them and the examiner will interact with you in that situation and ask you questions, but here too you must ask them a question as established in the instructions you will receive before starting.
