We all know that when it comes to learning a language, one of the biggest challenges is finding motivation. Sometimes motivation comes from within (it's intrinsic), but other times it comes from outside (extrinsic). Preparing for the DELE, having a specific date to take a Spanish level exam, may help you to be motivated: now you have a reason to study more and improve at what you do worst: reading, listening, writing or speaking.

Apart from recommending that you do the HIS, I'm going to give you some suggestions that can help keep your motivation at the highest possible level:

Tip 1: Learn from everyday sources, made for native Spanish speakers.Podcasts, television, radio and online newspapers in Spanish are great resources.

Tip 2: Align your learning with your interests. You'll learn more and better if you focus on topics and materials that you like or enjoy.

Tip 3: Incorporate Spanish into your routine.

Start thinking in Spanish. When you do a routine task, such as brushing your teeth or cooking, reflect on your day in Spanish. It is also advisable to have a diary or weekly where you can write in Spanish regularly (although with errors, but don't worry about that).

Tip 4: Use language learning techniques based on your learning style.

  • For kinesthetic students (who learn on the move): walk, cook, clean or exercise while listening to audio Spanish lessons.
  • For visual learners: organize your new vocabulary in tables, use visual dictionaries, describe images, watch movies in Spanish to get vocabulary out of there and see grammar in context.
  • For reading/writing students: write dialogues in Spanish, read newspapers and books in Spanish to learn vocabulary and see grammar in context, write a diary in Spanish or write letters to a friend (or to your “future self”).

I hope these tips are useful and that you can motivate yourself more by applying them.
